Historical Note: Roberta Littlefield grew up in Sitka, Alaska. After obtaining her basic education Littlefield became involved in various Sitka Native educational programs. Beginning in 1982 she began working as an instructor for the Sitka Native Education Program. A few years later, in 1986 she became a director of a children’s cultural camp at Sitka and a drum maker. In 1994 she found employment with the Sitka School District as a teacher of Tlingit language. During her employment with the school district, in 1999 she also began developing curricula for the Sealaska Heritage Institute’s cultural programs. In addition to these endeavors, she also taught language classes for University of Alaska, Southeast, Sitka extension campus, as well as conducted oral history interviews and operated an email dialogue which discussed various cultural topics relative to Southeast Alaska Native life and culture. As of 2008, Littlefield lived in Sitka.
