Earhart, Louise | Sealaska Heritage Institute Archives
Little information is presently available about Louise Earhart. However, it is known that during the 1920s or 1930s Earhart was a student at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York. During her summers as a Vassar student, she traveled to Haines, Alaska and volunteered at the Haines Presbyterian orphanage, which was connected to the Haines Alaska Presbyterian Mission. During one of her summers at Haines she met her future husband, a theological student studying at the Mission home. They later married and returned to live in the eastern United States.
It appears that a year or more after one of her volunteering ventures at Haines she penned a detailed memoir in her diary, which documents in detail the activities of the Haines Presbyterian orphanage, Presbyterian operations in Haines, and town-life at Haines during this period.
