Historical Note:

Samuella Samaniego grew up in Juneau, Alaska. Samaniego is a Tlingit Native American Indian of the Shangukéidí clan and her Tlingit name is Kust’aak. After graduating from Juneau-Douglas High School she traveled and eventually studied photography at the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Thereafter she moved to Seattle where she began her career as a photographer, primarily working in the analog format. In 2000 she came to Juneau for SHI’s Celebration and photographed the event. With her images from Celebration 2000, in 2002 she published a book entitled Celebration, a photography arts book which documented the various fetes at Celebration.
