Scope and Contents of the Materials

This seven-box collection consists of open reel audio recordings aired by KSTK Radio of Wrangell between 1980 and 1995. The collection documents a wide array of community affairs in Wrangell, from local political culture, social life, and Alaska Native issues. The collection, approximately 300 reels, provides a community wide documentation of an Alaskan village between the 1980s and 1990s.

The collection has been processed to a box level inventory, with the bulk of the first two boxes documented down to the item level. The first two boxes of the collection primarily concern Alaska Native issues of those in Wrangell, including interviews with local Tlingit and Haida residents. The remainder of the collection appears to document general community affairs, but perhaps half of the reels in boxes 3 through 7 are unlabeled and presently content is unknown. This collection is flagged for migration from reel to CD to make the collection more accessible to the public. Please consult the archivist for details about access.
