Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of audio/visual recordings produced by Cy Peck, Jr.  Mr. Peck is a well-known radio personality on Juneau, Alaska’s public radio station, KTOO-FM.  His programs, “Cy Peck’s ‘The Chiefs’ radio show” and “The Greatest Jazz Show on Earth” have showcased local, state and national issues, events and personalities of interest to the contemporary public. The subjects covered in this collection are: The 100th anniversary of the destruction of Angoon, Alaska by the United States military; the 67th Alaska Native Brotherhood (ANB) and Alaska Native Sisterhood (ANS) Grand Camp in 1979; and an interview with legendary jazz guitarist, Les Paul.

Note to researchers: the DVD recording of the 67th ANB/ANS Grand Camp includes remarks by ANS member, Mildred Sparks, concerning the successful passage of an ANS sponsored resolution allowing Native Alaskan dancing to be performed at Grand Camp.  Dancing had not been allowed at Grand Camp since the inception of ANB/ANS in 1912.

Item 1: Audio CD recording, in plastic case, with hand writing across top “THE CY & LESS SHOW” and “52:04” hand written across the bottom.  The recording, taped in 1997, is a telephonic interview between Cy Peck, Jr. and legendary jazz guitarist, Les Paul on Peck’s show, “The Greatest Jazz show on Earth”.Add to your cart.

Item 3: DVD recording, in plastic case, with hand printed label reading: ANB/ANS Convention” written across the top, and “1979, Juneau” hand written across the bottom. The recording is produced by Cy Peck, Jr. and contains highlights of the Grand Camp convention held in November 1979.  Of special note to researchers: the segment on the ANS provides information regarding the auxiliary’s influence and accomplishments that may not be otherwise available to the general public.Add to your cart.
Item 4: Transcription, typewritten, 8 pages, of Item 2, Cy Peck’s “The Chiefs” radio show consisting of interviews with G. Eve Rickley and Royal DeAsis regarding the 1892 bombing of Angoon by the United States military.Add to your cart.
