Acquisition Note: Source: David Katzeek. The recordings in this collection were obtained from David Katzeek and generated by SHI in cooperation with David Katzeek. The recordings in Fd 1 were given to SHI by David Katzeek in September 2011; the recordings in Fd 2 were given to SHI by David Katzeek on February 1, 2012; the recordings in Fd 3 were generated by SHI in partnership with Katzeek prior to 2007; and the recordings and transcriptions in Fd 4 were recorded and translated/transcribed by SHI September 2012; the materials in Fds 5-6 were obtained by SHI prior to 2007, most generated via SHI and Katzeek via contract.
Scope and Contents: This collection consists of recordings of and concerning Tlingit leader and educator David Katzeek (Kingeistí), Eagle Moiety, Shangukeidí Clan of Klukwan. These recordings are both audio and audiovisual and consist of recordings of David Katzeek giving Tlingit oration, and recordings concerning his family, primarily his mother Anna Klanott Katzeek.
