Scope and Contents: This collection consists of images taken by professional photographer Mark Kelley of Juneau, Alaska. The collection is comprised of 119 slides, 17 photographs, a few negative rolls of a studio setting showing a model (Ricardo Worl) wearing a ceremonial clan hat and a Chilkat blanket, two Celebration calendars produced by Kelley, four Celebration 1992 photos, and photographs, negatives, and slides of three images: of an identified man at Celebration, a unidentified woman filleting fish, and a view of the Alaskan coastline, undated. Original order has been retained in the arrangement of these images.
The slides, photos, and negatives found in Folders 1-4 were taken by Kelley in 2000 and one was used on the cover of SHI’s Celebration 2000. The images show a studio settings of a model (Ricardo Worl) wearing a ceremonial clan hat with Sockeye Cork Line (design by Archie J. Cavanaugh, Shaas Taak of the Gaanaxteidi clan, Frog House of Klukwan, Was’eeneidi yadi) and a Chilkat blanket (by Jennie Thlunaut, Shax’saani Keek’, Kaagwaantaan and Gaanaxteidi yadi of Klukwan).
The calendars in this collection were produced by Kelley in 1999 and contain images of Celebration 92’, 94’, 96’ and 98’. The Celebration 1992 images include a snapshot of Jack Strong, of the Alaska Native Cultural Heritage Association, Annie Hotch of Klukwan, and two images of anonymous people in the audience.
The photographs, negatives, and slides of three images found in Folder 7 are of an unidentified man at Celebration, an unidentified woman filleting fish, and a view of the Alaskan coastline, undated. It appears these photographs were used in a Sealaska Corporation or Sealaska Heritage Institute publication.
