Samuella Samaniego Photograph Collection, 1982-2000 | Sealaska Heritage Institute Archives

Scope and Contents: This collection contains over 2,500 page proof photographs and negatives taken by Samuella Samaniego at the Sealaska Heritage Institute’s Celebration festivals held in 1982, 1988, and 2000, some of which from 2000 were used in her publication Celebration. The bulk of the collection consists of images from Celebration 2000, while those from 1982 and 1988 comprise two folders. At present these photographs are stored in two boxes, the first contains Celebration 2000 page proofs and photographs as arranged by Samaniego, and the second is arranged chronologically and contains negatives and page proofs from Celebration 1982, 1988, and 2000. Images capture Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian Native American Indians dancing and celebrating their culture.
